More Student Work

I wanted to post some of the work of our students. We dont have the bandwidth to post everyone, but here is the work of one of our students,Guilherme Jacinto from Brazil.
Great Work. Look for more work from students in the future.
Also, post your feedback. We want to know what you think of the site and if we should keep it up and running…

Elliot
You should definately keep it up and running, but you should also respond a little to the comments made.
Beyond the advice, folks like to think they’re having a bit of contact with you hotshots.
Take care over the new year team : )
Dr. Gordon
Ok, That sounds good. Only thing about responding is that it is hard enough to post new stuff with all the work load. But I’ll try to respond to some.

Keep posting. I really find that stories from people about thier process, was of thinking, so on really help myself open up to new ideas or cement some idea I already had. Also, as I digress, the last post on gesture was great, stuff like that is fantastic, I only wish you put some drawings up there as well, but now I’m just being demanding. Keep up the great work.

What is this crazy talk I’m hearing… heck yeah keep posting! I can’t speak for anyone else but I love this stuff and until I manage to get to your classes this is by far some of the best material available on the web for us aspiring animators. I know its adds to the weekly work load as if you guys didn’t have enough to do already but it really does mean a lot to me. Thanks Spline Doctors!

Duuuude, you have to keep this thing up and running. This blog rocks! I’m sure that everyone who reads this would agree with me. Also we understand that time can be scarce and you got to make due with what little free time you have. It really is great that you guys do this. I’m looking forward to your future posts. Please keep it up!
Thanks!
Alex Orrelle
I feel ya, Andrew, especailly during Hannukah… but please don’t stop posting!
Never mind about responding to posts - we’re here to learn, we’re not fanboys.
If it’s easier - post about something interesting that was said or shown at dailies.
Michael
Please do keep it running, amigos.
I am a graduate student in editing at AFI (with an eye toward getting into animation editorial) and though my work to date is all live action, so much of what you post is just as relevant to what I do as it is to an animator.
As an editor one’s frequently zeroing in on behavioral details to help stitch a character together for the audience… that gestural stuff you posted is great in that regard. Ditto the Michael Caine stuff…. love seeing your students’ work, reading your random musings or whatever.
I am consistently amazed at the relevance to editing of the animator’s head-space. I was explaining how one of our upcoming movies needed to be blocked with my director, and pulled out “Illusion of Life” for a quick lesson on anticipation for him, explaining what I would be looking for to make the cut between two setups work and flow the way he envisioned it. He really dug it and it helped a lot. I think it’s because both our worlds can live or die on what our characters do in 1/24th of a second (or thereabouts). So, coming here, not only do I learn a lot about animation, but I learn a lot I can bring to my area of craft as well.
Anyway post, frequently or infrequently, but please do keep posting!!

Just another lurker, letting you know I look forward to grabbing the crumbs off your table!
The sort of insight you provide in this format is invaluable and deeply appreciated.
UnderwearNinja
I’m also a lurker, and I read daily (well Monday - Friday daily)
Your posts are informative and useful, please keep them coming!

The information you guys provide is invaluable and I really really appreciate it. Please keep posting, even if it’s only once a month. Though I’m not sure if I’m shooting to be an animator for a future career, your advice helps me even with my drawings. Thanks a lot!
Oh- and the student work has been MIND BLOWING! Bravo to all your students!!

Para bens pelo bom trabalho!!! Nota dez.
I love the guy typing. Great timing and thought process. MAN, that’s tough.
What part of Brazil are you from?
Piotr
I enjoy seeing the student’s work, very inspiring. I would also like to see perhaps some “behind the scenes” pictures and video of the students in session. Great stuff, always!

I’d just like to add that I’m another who is not an animator but in a related field also and I really enjoy the blog. Although I’m a concept artist/storyboarder/character designer I find that a lot of the important stuff is exactly the same - it all comes down to characterisation and backstory, body language, expression etc. which is addressed as a matter of course (or should be) in animation. So keep on bloggin’ - you’re reaching more than just the ‘core’ audience!
Traci P.
Please keep posting - this stuff is golden! It’s so awesome that you’re willing to share this information.

I listen to the talk that Andrew Gordon gave in Texas last summer while I was working at DNA. The info on this site is just as valuable as that. So keep doing what you guys have time to do. Thanks
Marie

As a junior animator trying to become better in animation every day, I can tell you that your stories, advices and anecdots are much appreciated!

I think you have your answer!

Absolutely keep posting! Without fail I check the site everyday and love reading what you all have to say. If anything I would say invite some more of your friends/co-workers into the doctors office so that keeping the site update becomes easier and the point of view becomes wider. Thanks for all the work you’ve put into it so far!
Brian
all the contributing bloggers on your site have been very inspirational. So much so, that I decided to apply to animation mentors. I should be starting classes this semester. Keep up the great work!
Dr. Gordon
Hey,

Love seeing the students work. Keep them coming. It’s great to see up and coming animators who will be working with me one day….or stealing my job
Marie
Great news
!!!
And I have a question about the reel… Where did he find the great 3D models? Is it personal modelled stuff or is it possible to have them somewhere?? The faces are fantastic, I wish we could have some models like that to work with…
I used the basic Hogan that I took at the Animation Workshop during the 3D Character Animation course, last year, but this one is much much better… If there is any possibility to have it - for training use of course - that would be fantastic!!
Jean-Denis Haas
Absolutely, keep the site!
Thanks for sharing the student’s work, very humbling!! Awesome work!
vinsanity
I sincerely hope you guys can keep this up, although I don’t comment often (and I should), I check back all of the time. It was very cool to see the student work, impressive and helpful.

Thank You!

Will these characters and rigs be released so the “public” can animate with them? They look to be sharp, functional, easy rigs to work with that are also light on your computer. Animating with rigs as solid as these appear to be in ones spare time would be nice.
erica
Dang, has Guilherme Jacinto been hired somewhere yet? He’s awesome! Beautiful acting with all the little subtleties that make them seem so human. Excellent work!
Oh, and since everybody else commented on it as well, I also read your blog often and hope it will continue, it’s always inspirational!
