Coming Soon…. Spline Cast Vault – John Kahrs

Its been a while since we have done any podcasts. In the next few days I’ll post some or all of an interview I did with former Pixar veteran animator John Kahrs. The interview is focused mainly on polish. Its super ghetto quality, recorded directly on an ipod. Look for it soon! Sorry for the time its taking. We don’t have any fancy sponsors….

yes I am looking forward to hearing that too, no matter the quality.

Oooh, very exciting. I’m sure the quality in the audio is made up for by the quality of the interview.
No sponsors? I would think the Dr has to have some incriminating photos somewhere he could use to drum up some sponsorship.

WUHUU!!!!! John Kars!! The Incredibles commentary really talk him up!
Oh and don’t worry about the quality, there’s something magical about the casualness of the conversation, hearing Brad Bird crunching some snacks.
Looking forward to more splinecasts, If you were to take suggestions for more spinecasts, it would be cool if a bunch of recently hired artists could sit and talk about how they got their break.
Take care Doctors!

OMG! This is actually really exciting. Is this like a best kept secret or something? I was browsing through CGSociety’s Features and I found Andrew’s Interview. He mentioned this site and now I am more than excited. I hope I am not being a complete tool but I would love to get a real critique from someone at my dream job. I don’t know if you all are against youtube but here it is.

All my stuff is posted here with the exception of a few major projects that my friend and I are working on. I am excited to check up on this site more often to learn more about animation. I started in High School and have always had a passion for CG and art. I humbly request a critique. I just want to get better. I would say my biggest weaknesses are my 2D artwork, and my rigging. There is no easy way to learn Rigging that I have found. And I sometimes feel like I am getting to the point where I know what I want, but not exactly how to do it. I use Photoshop, After Effects, Final Cut Pro, and Maya. Maya probably being the strongest. I have nothing but respect for those who work in this industry and it is a pleasure to at least speak my mind. I look forward to hopefully hearing back from you!
Cheers!

ps. Funny story: I actually sleep under my desk. I do not have a bed. Which is where I am going right after this message. I have 2 computers, an iMac G5 and a Desktop PC. My roommate and I love animation so much, we care more about that than our own bodies! I live in a 2 bedroom apartment with 3 other guys. Sometimes the living room couch is available. Many people think that we are crazy, but when you have a passion for something, nothing else really matters. Thanks for your time and I just wanted to say thanks for keeping a site like this. It keeps hope alive for us lowly student animator types.
