New Blood Coming Soon

Yes its been a while since I have posted anything. I am sorry to say that Adam Burke, will be taking a break from Spline Doctors. The good News is that we possibly will be getting 3 really great new Spline Doctors. They are:
Mark Walsh - Mark has been working at Pixar a little longer than me (almost 11 years) He was directing animator on Finding Nemo and Supervising Animator on Ratatouille. He also just finished up some amazing animation on Doug Sweetlands new Short film. He is currently teaching animation at the Academy of Art
Travis Hathaway – Travis came on around the time finding Nemo and has become one of Pixars best animators. He did some of the best stuff on Ratatouille and is a great teacher. He and I ran the Pixar intern program last year. I am really happy that he wants to post on Spline Doctors.
Michal Makarewicz – Michal started on Incredibles. He then did some really great work on Cars and most recently Ratatouille and Wall E. He won an Annie award for his work on Ratatouille. He was one of my best students at the academy of art in San Francisco. I am looking forward to reading some of his posts.
Some other stuff thats going on
New Site Coming soon. We have a redesigned web site that is being done by Ben Lew. Its looking good. We may even get sponsored by someone. Anyway, hopefully it will be easier to find old posts and have a better overall look. Suggestions will be welcome. We will go live within a month.
Spline Casts:
I am going to get the ball rolling again with a fresh batch. Hopefully the next big one will be with Doug Sweetland.
Over and Out….

Sounds fantastic! I’m especially excited about the new site. It sucks that we lose Adam Burke, however it is exciting to have 3 more doctors. The next year should be interesting!

Hi, Andrew,
Could you please point out for us, what shots Travis and Michal did in Ratatouille? and which shot lead Michal to an Annie Award? Honestly, I know little about them two. I didn’t find their blog or personal site. Hope to get some more introduction
We lose Adam here, what a pity! His posts let me learned a lot. To keep visiting splinedoctors has been my everyday habit. Big thanks for Adam. Fortunately we will have three new doctors. Mark Walsh is a great guy! My mentor Becky Bristow look him as one of her best students in CalArts, she is proud of him very much, and he is my model!
Doug Sweetland! I can’t wait to hear his podCast! An Huge Animation Monster! His work on Monsters Inc. and The Incredibles are among the most memoriable shots of all the Pixar’s past films. Just like Anton Ego said:
I will be back soon to “SplineDoctors Restaurant”, Hungry for more!!!

I am really looking forward to the new Splinedoctors’ site. And can’t wait to hear the interview with Doug Sweetland. I’ve heard really great things about him on the commentaries on the Toy Story 2 disc and such. The shot he did on that film with Woody coming out of the cardboard box is just incredible. Amazing.
Anyways, its sad that Dr. Burke left Splinedoctors, but looking forward to read what the new guys can bring to the site. Thanks,
- Thomas

All right, lookin forward to the new doctors. Mikes an amazing animator and a great teacher. You guys should really take his and Matts class.
@Victor Luo: the shot that I know of are the one where Remy has a dialogue with his brother telling him that the spices are in the house. The second one is where Remy stands up to his dad when he shows him what the humans do to the rats, it ends with Remy walking away saying something like “with luck, forward”

loads of good news. Thanks Andrew for all the work you put into Spline doctors and the fantastic interviews.
