Ha ha, loved those bloopers. and word fumbles. I always thought the same thing about the word “invaluable”. it makes no sense to me. great interview.

Nice interview! Wall-e and Presto haven’t come out yet in New Zealand, but can’t wait to see them!

Long time listener first time poster…
I haven’t listened to Doug Sweetland Part 2 yet but these podcasts are fascinating! Animation is a passion of mine and I love hearing this kind of stuff.

Hey there Spline Doctors! I just wanted to leave a comment first expressing my thanks, and secondly expressing how much I appreciate hearing interviews from people in the industry and everything that goes along those lines.
First, when I saw Presto in the theaters I was so highly impressed and want to congratulate you guys on such an amazing piece of work; this short has seriously been the greatest inspiration for me and a visual as to the style and level of animation I want to achieve years from now (we’re always improving and learning *hopefully*).
Next, with this interview, it was really great to hear about the acting classes and the comparison that animators study the lines so insanely, while actors try to make the lines feel nonchalant. My opinion is that animating is probably one of these most difficult, but rewarding fields in the world, and I think it’s even more difficult than acting.
Really great interview, thanks again! Best of luck! And keep making it move!!

Wow Such a good splinecast, very inspiring! I loved the invaluable tangent, very funny. Doug seems like such an energetic guy, must have been a real pleasure to work under him.
Andrew- do you think you might want to direct a short sometime in the future?

This was a really “sweet” splinecast. It was awesome to hear about the process of development of Presto. Thanks a lot for these splinecasts. Looking forward to more of them!

Big, big thank you, to Doug, Andrew, and everyone else who helped to this.

Great interview! I learn so much from you guys, can’t even give as many thanks as you deserve. Love the ending too, so funny haha.

Great interview, Andrew, thanks again for doing these.
It’s fascinating to hear Doug talk about his approach to acting–it’s much more rigorous than a lot of visually oriented animators.
Re: the motion-blurring stuff you guys were talking towards the end: I don’t know how Marionette works, obviously, but at Blue Sky there was a workaround animators were sometimes able to use–setting sub-frames to keep the blur from doing a straight, smooth interpolation and making every snappy motion look like Alan Cummings’ character in the X-Men movies.
Anyway, however you handled it you guys did an amazing job on Presto. One request only: Your levels on these interviews are hellaciously low. Love the outtakes, tho’.

I love the Sweetland interviews. So funny. He sounds like he has a great personality and is a blast to work with. Awesome interview Andrew! I have listened to all of them at least twice but this one by far is the best. I do have to say though when Brad Bird was busting on you for having your phone on during his interview was classic too. Hey fire back…tease him for his nerdy appearance in the Amazing Stories episode he was in. If I remember he was a science nerd or something. Funny.
Keep up the great work.
